America my hue should not matter, still it does/
Though I wish we could pontificate on how great we could be/
I hope for us to only see the beating hearts inside you and me/
I know we can rise above the racist stereotype that the world depicts us to be/
If only we could close our eyes and touch each other’s skin/
Then rejoice in the struggle and warmth within/
If only we could hear each other’s laughter and our kids playing with one another/
Maybe we could put the guns away and make hugs matter again/
Maybe we could hold each other in an embrace that could momentarily erase the pain of losing our mothers and fathers/
I know we can be better without canceling everything different/
Because different is what makes us - US/
Add a A and you can feel the red, white and blue/
You can taste the apple pie and turkey/
Can we acknowledge that our past is imperfect?/
Our justice system needs work/
But without the hurt we would not know joy/
Can we walk in the darkness together and break free in the sunlight?/
Then smile as one nation when our color gets - UNCHAINED!
