Color of Sorrow and Joy

Black I am

By Dee TruthPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Black is the color that inspires all that be,

Joy, pain, sadness, excitement, creativity, and me!

Black like my use of AAVE to my code-switching for those who don't speak like me

Black is shared by me and the ancestors- the ones who stayed home, the ones who fell in the sea, the ones who landed on foreign land

Black but with shades to cool the black panther's majestic fur or attract heat like T'challa's skin

Black sho'nuff 'Don't crack' but the fight between red and blue while white strikes what is left is cowardly, yes, but this is the land where I rest

Chile the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice

Just Ax

Assata, Tupac, Kendrick, Malcolm not appropriate Black fandom whilst J Hoover dawg, Lil General Lee, Poppa Donald T, and Chauvin's knee are the fandom of the hole-ly?

Yet, I'm Black with pride in the rainbow as the colors compliment me

Black not as night but as the melanated hue of those who descend from the ones known for being bonded in heavy chains but not known for their strengths before, during, and other those days

Black because Grammys are for 25 and not Lemonade though both sweet, I always find lemonade sweet no matter my age

Black like Oscar Grant in Fruitvale, no Oscar for the fruit because Black can be tew much truth

Black, watch them all flee their property "afraid" of a decrease, lower value

Black don't stay for long the sun is going down

Black the only color to best understand is Green, green book, green grass, green dreams

Black like Rap, real hip hop in its unfiltered raw, real, relevant joy and pain of the struggle of my people

Black like the bodies hanging from the poplar trees

Black and woman, like ‘Ain't I a woman?’ Yes, Sojourner, you speak truth, yes Queen, you are a woman

Black and a leader like Mansu Musa, Nanny of the Maroons, or Harriet

Black I am, I am, I am

About the Creator

Dee Truth

In darkness of humanity and this very earth, I find comfort that it is not darkness that we should be worried about but our actions propelled by our darken souls. Don't worry about the dark but instead nourish your soul and survive.
