Color Blind
Unity and Love
When I was young I was color blind,
Breathed into me there was only one kind.
One kind of love; one kind of person,
So God’s righteous judgment upon me doesn’t worsen.
Hate spewed from religious platforms filled my heart,
From infant to adulthood my feelings I had to discard.
I knew I was different; but how,
One day I would find out for myself I vowed.
A journey that took some time,
Confusing emotions that intertwined.
Love for the same kind,
Asexual at times.
Acknowledgment and acceptance set me free,
Allowed me to be myself; allowed me to be me.
The amount of exposure to the hate of this world,
Conditioned me to pain as opinions around me swirled.
Opinions on who I was permitted to love and care for,
At times called names and harassed to conform.
Hate directed at the concept of different,
For different is a threat to one’s environment.
Unknown of what the difference might change,
What patterns, thinking, actions might be rearranged.
Humans push back when change is brought up,
Not wanting their daily patterns to interrupt.
Perhaps if we commit to open-mindedness,
Some of our life’s stress would be eliminated.
Unified we stand with one another,
Love and respect for every color.
Every color in the rainbow of life,
Where there is no room for fight or strife.
A promise; a truce; an understanding,
That love will win; love representing.
When the universe comes together,
Together every storm to weather.
Half-circle painted across the sky,
The moment when heaven and earth are allies.
Unified as the sun shines,
Out from behind clouded skies.
Only then does the rainbow appear,
And every color is revered.
