The house is cluttered,
and my soul starts to mutter.
It’s mostly all her items,
I want to help but feel frozen.
I’m not sure where she wants it all,
dare I even try to organize everything?
It may turn out not the way she approves of and then I’d feel inadequate.
I kiss my sweet daughter’s head and close my eyes.
It’s late and she’s still out,
I work hard to remain calm.
The phone rings and it’s a weird number.
It’s an officer and his voice stops my heart for a few seconds.
“Your wife is being arrested.”
My thoughts tumble and all I can croak is, “I’m so sorry.”
The officer says a few other things and then hangs up.
The voice of God spoke through my daughter at that moment and the words were, “It’s gonna be okay, daddy.”
All these years later, I still cry at the thought of it.
