Clown White

A poem by a Transgender Drag Queen

By Kevvie VidaPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
The author in drag. Her foundation is white, contour is a light turquoise, purple eyeshadow, pink lips, and a purple wig.

If drag is the expression of another gender

What sort of gender am I?

Face painted with

Clown White

That’s not drag if

Drag is female impersonation

But who am I impersonating?

Not a woman-

I am a woman

A trans fantastic drag queen

Woman

When I eat, woman

When I sleep, woman

When I live, breathe, and die, woman

When Gayle Sherman was a woman

She was shunned from

The art of drag

For being

A woman

A transgender woman

Legendary Dolls

Banned from pageants

Discriminated against

For being women

RuPaul says

“Probably not”

To the possibility of casting

A transgender woman

So what is drag to this woman-

Whose face is painted like a clown?

Sexy colorful cartoon clown

White canvas

Adorned with Pinks and Blues

And Purples

Swirls of colors that

Bring me joy

I’m colorful

And beautiful

And somehow

Drag?

Drag is Queer

Performance Art

And even when my life falls apart

Drag is there to save me

When my heart’s no longer in it

If only one thing I impart

Drag can be for everyone

Any gender.

Any thing.

Any color.

What does drag mean to you?

It means whatever you want to do.
