clouds

Nah

I had to drive through the mist again today,

some mixture of fog and clouds, a web of white

shrouding the world, empty oak branches reaching

into the sky, looking like they're asking why.

As I come around the curve on NC 7, past the drive-in,

I see the houses lined up like spectators

watching traffic, focused on the road

like money's riding on it. They should clean up

those clouds from their lawns.

The ground is no bride,

needs no veil.

I hate driving through the fog, too. Walking through it, however, can be fun.
