a mother’s love

By ariana buchananPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

the beating of my own heart has been the only consistency you’ve ever known.

it has never served a greater purpose than this.

my body, the only shelter you’ve ever had, and it’s been good to you.

fought itself to keep you safe and won a spot for you to grow.

how you’ve grown.

you’ve always felt me,

i am the only person you’ve ever touched.

but now i can feel you.

each twist and turn

each kick and punch

and it reminds me that one day you’ll be here fighting your own battles.

and i will miss the days when simply my steps lulled you to sleep during the day

when i could hold you without effort

when you were a part of me.

but then again,

you will always be a part of me.

i will never again be okay without you.

but then again, i will never be without you.
