Eastern Blue Bird

By Mother CombsPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Flittering here to there

Hop flitter flitter hop

From branch to branch

And perch to perch

Dainty as can be

Eating poison ivy fruits

And wild grapes and insects

Hop hop flitter flitter hop

Nesting in the cavities

Of trees and eaves

Laying a clutch

Up to twice a year

With as many as 14 chicks

Flitter hop flitter hop hop

Calling out it’s song

For all to hear

Chu chu chuirEE

Lovable herald of spring

Beautiful blue feathers

Flitter hop flitter hop

Chu chu chuirEE

Missouri State bird

Sialia sialis
