Christmas Trees and Why I Love Them
A Poem to Remember this Holiday Season

The most wonderful thing
Of Christmas trees
Is that they take on many forms.
One’s Christmas tree
Could simply be
A small plant
And some thorns.
The richest man in the world
Could own a twenty-footer,
Set up aglow in a great hall.
The poorest man’s
Might not be
Quite as flashy
At all.
A plastic two-foot tall tree
Is as tree as a tree could really be;
Or the tree in your heart
If you’re stuck in a war,
Or a Christmas tree painting
On your bedroom door.
The North Man himself,
From up in Christmas-tree Towne,
Has told me sincerely,
“Any tree is as tree as a tree
Could really be.”
So never worry about
Looks or grandeur,
Of any sort, at all;
What matters then and now,
Is the closeness of Christmastime,
And that your tree is proud.
