Chasing my tail

When fathers are consumed by themselves, sons often get caught in their own destructive loops.

By Phil LovellPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

Have you ever heard of the uroboros?

A cold blooded tail of a snake that ate his

What empty appetites drove such a beast

To swallow itself in a pitiful feast?

***

I am the son of the uroboros

Orphaned by the snake that ate itself

Circling myself and doomed to fail

Here I am, chasing my tail

***

Papa snake couldn’t teach me to break the loop

His mouth was too full of himself

So like every generation that slithered before

I’ll follow his path in the dirt once more

***

What will be left of me if I ever escape?

I suppose it doesn’t matter

There is no more time to be foraged or found

I ate my pocket watch on the way around

About the Creator

Phil Lovell

As someone who never really connected with poetry, I have been suprised to discover how much I enjoy writing it. It gives me an avenue to explore the philosophical side of my thinking, and explore my creativity a little. I hope you enjoy!
