Chasing comfort

The ultimate desire

Ring RING–

The alarm chimes

Ears sing

The body mimes

what it did not a day ago

A routine choreo,

The Tired Dancer’s flow.

Suddenly summer rays caress the defrosting window

A joyous smile and Surya Namaskar follow

Limbs jump into action without mind

Tailing time, clocking the grind;

I wash, I brush,

Now I rush;

5 minutes past!

Breathing is last.

No thought, no mind,

Just clocking the grind.

Suddenly Summer by Armin dims the fuss of traffic

Music’s happy sigh transcends to memories nostalgic

The familiar sea of faces once more,

Brand new day of ideas to explore

Brains to storm, politics to ignore

Some they adore, some they deplore;

Raging against the doomed machine,

Strained eyes staring at a merciless screen.

Everything looks the same, but something’s always new

Today the gift of a friendly smile got me through

Spirits uncoiling

As the day’s toiling

comes to a close;

The mind is engaged,

Occupied by thoughts

of repast and repose;

Then the radio comes on

Marred by world news

More thorns less rose;

The heart, the soul, the body, the mind

Mistake the unforgiving minute for the relentless grind

Politics, media, war, pollution

Piling problems, unfound solutions

Mind fading, bones rusting, days ending in convolution;

Seemingly hopeless when suddenly the sun’s first ray,

The slurps of spicy ramen on a cold day,

The opening strings of my favorite song play,

Coming home after having stayed away,

Mom’s warm hug, the bestie’s excited ‘Hooray!’

A lover’s unapologetic, affectionate display,

My cozy bed where I thank and pray,

Suddenly make it all OK;

Time keeps fleeting but I keep on chasing comfort anyway.
