“Chasing Celebrity”

In a city chasing celebrity

We laid on the sand and stared at stars

Lost in our yesterdays

Figuring out who we are

Behind doors are we the favorite image

Starred and captioned on the page

In a city chasing celebrity

We laid on the sand and stared at stars

Surrounded by cameras and melody

Echoing what hummingbirds sing

I started ten years ago

But when will I begin

Who will I be in decades time

When the information doesn’t spread the same

If my loud voice just adds to the noise

Did I ever really sing?

I finally found my opening

Opportune and happenstance

Stick my hand into the pot of fortune

If I happened to have the chance

Stick my hand into a tightened jar

It has me by the wrist

The only ones who break free

Are ready to bleed for this

Hiking through the lit up hills

Frosted facades and stainless steel

They worked so hard to get this far

But barely ever live up here

I could release my hand from the gold

And leave with just some of it

Either way pains me just the same

But I think I’m in love with it

The artist dies and the art lives on

Imprinted in time just like scars

In a city chasing celebrity

We bled on the sand and stared at stars
