catharsis

a poem

the draining of all good feelings

like watching rain run down a storm drain.

it's chilling like the smell of a dry ice.

it is tiring to reach,

just barely out of your grasp

like a star right outside of orbit

or the feeling of eyes on your back

from whoever is in that dark corner.

unnerving,

unmoving,

heavy,

engulfing.

it feels like ink and embers

swirling in your throat and lungs.

but take a breath.

let out a scream,

throw your emotions at the wall

and watch them shatter against it.

feel the air come back in your lungs

the rushing of your brain calming, slowly.

and revel in the new found feeling

of silence that comes over you

like a heavy blanket

or the warm yellow sky on the day of a tornado.

feel your catharsis

flood your sense.

you earned it.

catharsis is hard earned,

and you earned it.

- A.N,

sad poetry
