You're fat

And I don't like the way you move.

Hairy legged worm, that's what you are!

You're just larvae by another name

Eating cabbages and making doilies

Of everything.

Get away from me!

Until you change, I don't want to see you.

I could squish you

Between my fingers

But I don't want to feel you

On my skin.

Lurid, horrible little beast.

*

You may have noticed that caterpillars fail to inspire me. I actually have nothing against them at all.

I’m not especially fond of hairy caterpillars which cause itching but the one pictured looks quite gorgeous! I enjoyed your poem, but doubt the caterpillar will be impressed.

Felt the disdain and disgust quite powerfully! Which do you hate more, squirrels or caterpillars?

Well-wrought! Would it be more inspiring if it blew smoke rings and asked "Who are you?"

  • I don't even like them when they change into butterflies. They still creep me out. Loved your poem!

Be wary of anything that creeps and crawls is my motto. "Hairy legged worm, that's what you are!" - love it!!

  • Not even the bright fuzzy ones?????

Very fun poem, however, I must disagree. Perhaps I'll have to write my own ode to the Caterpillar and help you see their beauty.

Awe, the poor little grubs have so many obstacles give them a little lov’n I sure felt the wonderland weirdness in this piece

I share your no-love of caterpillars, Rachel. Here in the US, there’s one particularly fat, large and green hornworm that eats away my tomatoes. I don’t like killing anything but this one deserves it.

I tried to make a pet out of a caterpillar when I was in the fourth grade. Great poem, Rachel!
