Catching Up

Slithered out of the covers, anticipated snow

got dim downpour and haze lay destroyed across the lake.

The canine was prepared.

Downpour halted the signal.

I feel the rock push against the sole of my shoes. Colorless reeds,

pale apparitions against the earthy colored leaves flickering with a downpour.

She halted

at the highest point of the incline, an outline against the mists.

We were phantoms in the valley. Strolled through

banks of mist that floated across the dam. I trusted she paused.

She chuckled with acknowledgment as we emerged out of the mist.

Hear her voice. A quavering harp winding around the waking geese and ducks,

who trust that the sun will consume with extreme heat the haze - - take off.

Whenever we joined her, she directed us down toward the lake. The geese

assembled, a clamor of sounding; started to race and takeoff,

got through shades of haze as they shaped a vee. White light,

the morning sun moved over the slope, covered in mists.

Her arm twined with mine and the hatted head squeezed against me.

The canine pulled on the rope. My adoration rose to pussyfoots and kissed me on the jawline.

I started to vanish into a bright haze. Allow my arms to encompass her.

The canine hustled about us, tied us firmly against each other, staggering,

attempting to stop - - we found

quietness in a kiss and a heartbeat.

Afterward, as the last smidgens of morning waited by the front entryway,

she let me in on it was great I had found her.

It was preferred together over walking alone. I hung tight,

mindful, waiting fragrances of cinnamon, nutmeg, and fall.
