Catch Me Here at Midnight
The comfort of seeing the emotions caught in your heart written down on paper

Catch me here at midnight
reading all my favorite lines,
allowing gorgeous words to
cut me open with a crippling sharpness,
piercing through this void of darkness
pulsing through my veins.
I’m bleeding out emotions,
powerful and deadly,
streaming out like pitch-black
venom down my skin.
Now all the world can see
I’m teeming full of agony within
and found salvation in this fragile art
that saves and ruins,
that creates and then obliterates.
I just can’t help myself from
poring over pages that contain such riches,
letting my own heart be emptied out
onto the paper right before me
so that my pain can marry
the tattooed beauty of black ink
in tapping drops of tears
to commemorate such heartache.
This is me
crumbling to pieces in the face
of bitter truth and life and love-
and all the joy and torment of the world
together staring back at me.
This is the writer’s sword
we wield with utmost grace,
to tear apart the broken hearts
and sew them back together once again.
This is the knife inside my chest
as I begin unravelling at every seam,
just wishing I had half of the allure in me
as every perfect sentence bears.
So you can catch me here at midnight
reading all my favorite lines
falling fast asleep
next to wonders and lies.
