Cartography of Her Gaze
Her eyes are not one color, but a blend

I do not need to see the stars at night,
I have no use for maps or ancient lore,
For I have seen a far more stunning sight—
The universe that her two eyes hold in store.
Her eyes are not one color, but a blend,
Of every shade the sky has ever known.
A battle that a sunset has not ended,
Where gentle blues and stormy greys are sown.
One moment, they are shallow, sun-lit seas,
Where playful, sparkling waves of joy invite.
The next, they are deep, ancient mysteries,
That hold the quiet wisdom of the night.
I see the weather of her soul in there,
A sudden cloud of thought, a silver lining.
A flash of lightning, a silent, still despair,
A dawn of hope that is forever shining.
They are the only books I need to read,
The only art that I could ever trust.
They hold the answer to my every need,
And turn my weary waiting into dust.
So let the world have all its gilded views,
Its vast, dramatic, and its distant sceneries.
My world, my home, my everything, I choose,
To be forever lost inside her irises.

This is deep....the poem paints her.... but more so her eyes... Those mental moments are revealed to us on canvas and the pen is its paint brush...
