Carter G. Woodson.
The founder of Negro History Week.
Now I know what you’re thinkin’,
But don’t look at me,
I don’t know if I’m related to Carter G.
Yes we have the same last name,
I might be using it in vain,
But I’d be honored,
To be related to Cater G.
The founder of Negro History Week,
The week that became a month,
A month were fun,
Is made up,
Of pain through reflection.
Remembering the ties,
That bonded our people together,
We hurt, when people don’t get the message.
Carter G.
Founded a week, that became a month,
For you and for me.
A month of acknowledgment,
Of the zero tolerance,
That we had,
For evil & tyranny.
A time to remind folk,
That this wasn’t that long ago
And that white folk,
Y’all can still do better.
Black History Month.
A month that was a week.
A week for our people to see,
How strong we can be,
When we work together.
Carter G.
The founder of Negro History Week.
The week that become a month,
Created a reminder,
For all to see,
Black History isn’t just a month,
It’s ongoing.
Black History is made everyday,
By black folk,
Like you, and me.
