Carpe diem (Seize the day)
Dead Poets Society (1989)

Every day, the world seems to spin faster, with moments and time slipping by swiftly, in the blink of an eye. It makes me ponder: with all this hustle and bustle, are we losing ourselves? Losing sight of what truly matters in life — the very essence of humanity. Are the poets, the dreamers, the artists who once breathed life into our world slowly dying? Or are they just buried alive by the destructive force of imposed norms, expectations, molds, and paths, crushing the spirit and soul of humans filled with passion?
Gotta do more, gotta be more. That’s what we are told. To chase after some distant mirage of success that glitters in the eyes of others. But why can’t we just live life and be true to ourselves? What if, instead of sprinting down paths laid out by others, we find our own walk, make our own track — whether we know what we want in life or not. What if we seek out and listen to the quite voice drowned by the noise around us, and speak it?
Living authentically, they say, is not enough. But who are they to decide? To simply live life is not to settle for mediocrity — it is not a sign of mediocrity; it is the very essence of greatness, the most extraordinary thing we can do. It is soaring high and beyond, being free, breaking out of the boxes, having the courage to stand on a desk and see the world anew, and daring to live in our own poetry.
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, for the time will come when we must leave this world.
In chasing greatness, we may achieve something significant, something that embodies success in the eyes of others — but at what cost? Losing our dreams and losing sight of the things that truly matter. In the end, life is about living deeply, deliberately. Don’t strive merely to do something extraordinary by the world’s standards; live a life that feels extraordinary to you. It doesn’t have to be grand or monumental in their eyes; it just has to be yours.
We may not have all the answers, and there will be days when doubt creeps in. But the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?
Come, my friends
’Tis not too late to seek a newer world
For my purpose holds to sail beyond the sunset
-Alfred Lord Tennyson
Carpe diem. Seize the day. The world is waiting for your verse.
