I set a few sticks

in a tipi position

and then light my fire.

Sitting on a rock

I feel the cold beneath me

and smoke in my face.

Flames flicker to life,

and roar like a dragon's breath

receiving the wind.

I place the water

in its blackened, wizened pot

in hot coals. I wait.
