Caged Wings

Caged Wings

By ElliePublished 10 months ago 1 min read

They say I can fly, but they clip my wings,

They hand me choices, yet bind me in strings.

"Not this, not that," their chorus remains,

No matter the path, they tighten the chains.

I speak, they silence—"You talk too much,"

I stay quiet, they scold, "Why not speak up?"

No door is open, no road is mine,

Yet they say, “You're free, take your time.”

I reach for the stars, they pull me down,

Tell me it’s not for a girl in this town.

I bring new ways, new dreams to chase,

They shake their heads, “No, not this place.”

And when the world moves, leaving me still,

They point at others with effortless will.

"See her? She chose, she walked so free,"

But who was it that shackled me?

Now, the echoes remain, the silence screams,

A prisoner of love, lost in broken dreams.

They say I can do whatever I please,

Yet I stand in a cage, without any keys.
