Each day I climb the ladder
Wearing suit and tie
Whilst kicking those below
Smiling as I tell my lies
…
I lie, I cheat, I obfuscate
Use any means at my disposal
No matter who I hurt
So long as I get the proposal
…
For I am a businessman
Sight set on CEO
While millions may suffer
I’ll rake in the dough
…
Research says this drug is not ready?
But it’ll bring in millions of dollars?
So, yes, put it on the shelf
While I iron my snow white collar
…
This may cause cancer in a decade?
But it’ll increase the profit margins?
So we’ll release it for consumers
Deal later with what it harkens
…
We’ll make earth uninhabitable in a century?
So what? I won’t be here to care
My great grandkids can deal with the result
So long as I’m wealthy, all is right and fair
…
I’m responsible for millions of deaths
Diseases, addictions, accidents, cancers
But my bank account is stuffed with money
And I’m off to the financiers
…
Why should I care what my actions cause?
People are just walking guinea pigs
So long as I rake in large profits
They can worry about their own gigs
…
Am I a criminal? A sociopath perhaps?
Of course not, I’m just a man of business
Doing what makes my company richer
As the good lord is my witness
…
I rest easy at night without a care
Despite the pain and suffering I cause
Since I’m not breaking any real laws
You got a problem, rewrite the clause

Wow brilliant. He will rise, and admits he isn’t bothered who he walks over. That is how people like him get the money, and we have nothing.😢
Powerful stuff and a damning indictment of those who seek only profit for themselves.
A very deep and thought-provoking poem
This was so terrifying yet it is the truth. Loved your poem!
Brilliant & Powerful!
Powerful commentary on greed and moral corruption in business.
A free verse insight into the minds of CEOs and others in authority. You are so right- they lack empathy when it comes to decision making. So well said.
