By candlelight we pray tonight

We search for the Transcendent ground

Enigma might reveal insight

If Inquiry is rightly bound

x

Now listen, do you hear that sound?

The maker’s mark is all around

A song not mine and yet not yours

Out of the darkness brightness pours

x

A spark, a star aflame, a gem

The root from which all things must stem

A treasure forged in hearts of men

Only to then be lost again

x

The Word is not paper and pen

It is the cat, the mouse, the wren

Under the waves and in the sky

The gold you see falls from your eye

x

The cold is cured quick as can be

The soul is thawed by destiny

The whole is awed by just one part

When we become a work of art

x

Thy Law is writ upon my heart

And from my path I shan’t depart

Yet Lord, I ask, what do I seek?

Help me to understand mystique

x

That chord you strike so deep within

It resonates upon my skin

The echo calls my essence forth

And suddenly, I know true north

x

The sacred falls wash over us

Embodiment thus manifest

For only then might we discuss

Secrets within a gilded chest

x

A focus that we should have guessed

A symmetry among the stars

A locus for the coming storm

A cage with freedom for the bars

x

So make your choice and so transform

Now hold your breath and listen here

That stillness that you hear, at rest?

That’s how you know that He draws near.
