If I could burn my words

and throw their meaning to the flames,

Perhaps I'd cease the fire off

and water myself when the language blames.

-

A syllable crisp and dark,

more beautiful than cold ash

Means more to me than sound

or the clarity of a lightning flash.

-

Too dangerous to try to mend,

too permanent to dare mistake,

Far too much trusted upon it,

Far too much is at its stake.

-

How peaceful would life grow

without these mindful games.

How easy would hearts pump,

If my words would be in flames.
