Bumble bee on a yellow flower drinking it’s afternoon tea
Frog croaks full of power warning the others of me
White butterflies flutter for hours every now and then joining the bees
Living life so effortlessly in beautiful harmony
Rain clouds in the sky dotted with hawks flying high above the trees
Searching for what’s scurrying in the weeds behind me
Why do I find this so enticing?
It’s such a wondrous scene
A system of creed
Wind swaying the trees enough for the leaves to touch and rustle much
Dark greens, light purples, and colorful bugs
A palette made with no fuss
For a moment,
There is a still silence
The wind paused and the cicadas stopped crying
My feet in the grass
I’m automatically hurting the world that
We live in
Walk a few steps
No sound
The life around me has hidden
It’s now gravel beneath my feet
Man-made stone on to which the grasshoppers leap
I wonder how they’d feel about deer bones lining our streets
How the same bees living here in harmony are an endangered species
How we de-forest areas just for more of the same places to eat
How we pick flowers to show love to those who weep
The rain drizzles a little more heavily
The insects make their sounds in belligerent heaps
Trees whisper
But this secret they won’t keep
“What about me?” they say
They start to beg and plead,
“What about we?!”
The noises they make begin to join in to one loud scream
“WHAT ABOUT ME?
WHAT ABOUT WE?
WE ARE ONE IF YOU JUST LET ME BE!
YOU HAVE ALL BECOME THIS EVIL THING
WE WISH WE COULD RUN
BUT YOU CAN’T LEAVE WE
WE TRY TO OVERCOME
ADAPT TO WHAT YOU BRING
BUT BEFORE TOO LONG WE’RE LEFT WITH WHAT YOU DO WRONG
DON’T YOU SEE?!
WE WANT TO MOVE ALONG AND JUST BE FREE
IT’S SOMETHING WE HAVE IN COMMON
SO WHY CAN’T YOU LET US BE?!
WE WERE HERE BEFORE YOU
YOU USED TO LIVE AS PART OF WE
SINCE THEN YOU’VE BEATEN AND ABUSED
WHY ARE YOU SO MEAN?!
WE GIVE YOU ALL YOUR NECESSITIES
AND YOU STILL WANT MORE?
PLEASE STOP WITH ALL THE GREED!”
I run to my car full of electricity
I’m back in the arms of what human society brings
I look out as what was
Now it’s just shopping centers and diverse pubs
Roll the windows down to breathe in the must
Suff
Oca
Ting
Oxyge
Nation
I NEED A TREE
Carbon
Dioxide
Contam
Ination
WHERE ARE THE LEAVES?!
Blue in the face and choking desperately,
I fell dead
Such a wondrous scene...
The last thought in my head was of the bumble bee on the yellow flower buzzing the word,
“We”
