Building Blocks

Race relations

By Jennifer FentressPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
"Multi-culture is the real culture of the world-- a pure race doesn't exist." Keanu Reeves

My thinking sometimes blocks the path to understanding.

Feeling misguided in a world that seems a little too demanding.

A misunderstanding that is too powerful to simply wish away.

To condemn without understanding on why things are this way.

Being of multi race I never really felt like I fit in

How do I embrace my path without feeling like a victim?

That all of my struggles have not been in vain

And that many have walked this path and have at times felt the same

So is today the day that I say not this time.

That doubt and defamation will not loiter in my mind.

That I am important and have a purpose to find

That I can be thoughtful, caring, loving, supportive, and kind.

We all leave footprints in this world in which we live.

But will the world remember the things that I’ve did?

We amplify the negative until it disfigures reality.

Looking only at the differences and not the commonality

And in the end when there is nothing left about to fuss

Will we do unto others as they have done unto us?

We must learn to treat each other as though we are equal.

Because a different world cannot be created by indifferent people.
