Build Something First

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

Verse 1

They talk like they’ve climbed every hill

But they’ve never laid a single brick still

Throwing shade from a seat they never earned

But I’ve got scars from the lessons I learned

Pre-Chorus

I’ve built with broken hands and grit

So I don’t need advice from someone who quit

Chorus

Don’t take constructive criticism

From folks who haven’t constructed shit

If you ain’t bled for it, sweat for it

Then your words don’t mean a bit

I’ve built my truth from fire and fight

So keep your judgment outta sight

Don’t take constructive criticism

From folks who haven’t constructed shit

Verse 2

They love to point out every flaw

But never stood where I saw it all

Blueprints drawn in midnight tears

Foundations laid through doubt and fear

Bridge

So if you’ve never risked the fall

Don’t tell me how to stand tall

I’ll take feedback from the brave

Not the ones who just behave

Final Chorus

Don’t take constructive criticism

From folks who haven’t constructed shit

If you ain’t built it, lived it, lost it

Then your voice don’t make me quit

I’ve earned my place, I’ve paid the price

So I’ll take truth, not empty advice

Don’t take constructive criticism

From folks who haven’t constructed shit
