Day by day
Hour by hour
You build yourself
A grain at a time
Each thought
Each experience
Sits upon your base
Delicately at first
But solidly at last
It takes the shape you build
One grain at a time
Each unique and beautiful
Each grander given time
But in the end, by death or by tragedy
All you are is sand upon a blacktop
And no matter how many layers you add
A storm can strip them all away
In an instant
