I am brown
Like the earth beneath our feet, I am grounded,
Proud of my family and heritage cofounded
By the people who lived here before Christopher “found” it;
The voices of countless generations resound loudly,
They cannot be drowned; they echo through me:
We are brave and free, built on family,
Joined at the hearth by song and cuisine,
Rooted in respect and humility,
Brown is the trunk of my family tree,
A hue of my culture and history.
I am brown,
A shade that mixes with every other,
For love is a spectrum of every color.
