Brooks And Tillie

1943

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

His name was Brooks

Her name was Tillie

He was a crook, and he stole Tillie's heart

A boy back from the war

She ran the company store

From the day that they met they were never apart

One warm summers eve

He got down on one knee

Gave her his word and the keys to his car

An old country town

And a small piece of ground

A ring and a vow was all they had at the start

First a boy then a girl

All was right with the world

A picture of perfection a priceless work of art

A lifetime full of treasures

They went through them together

1979: kissed her goodbye and she died in his arms

A story of love and the work just to make it

Pictures and stories that make it all fit

Truths of the heart is that loving is easy time goes too fast and living is hard

Kelli, this could be a start to a romance novel.

  • This was so poignantly beautiful! I sang this to the tune of Avril Lavigne's song, Sk8er Boi! Loved your poem!

  • This is a beautifully tender read, Kelli. She must have died very young. It breaks my heart.
