Broken Promises

Clinging to life

By Ashley ArndtPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

You promised it would be forever and always

But when the life of sin took a turn

To a life worth living you ran

You say one thing

Then do another

Couldn’t stick around

Long enough to welcome

A life you created

Left me to stand alone

To fight the demons alone

The demons came too close

One too many times

With a blade to my chest

I screamed your name

I prayed you’d hear my cries

You’d change your mind

Realize what you were leaving behind

But reality beat me into the ground

You were nowhere to be found

I felt the kick of life

As I lay bleeding

I knew in that moment I had to survive

I had to prove you wrong

I had to prove I was stronger than you

I stood tall just to get knocked down

Over and over again

I pushed myself through

The darkest of times

Blindly feeling for a light

That never came

Finally reach the end

Standing taller than ever before

What’s that I see in the distance

Looks like you but deader than before

Covered in mud and blood

The way you left me

So many years before

Now here you come

Screaming my name

The way I screamed for yours

Do I stand and wait

Or do I turn away

Do I save you

Or protect what you left behind

heartbreak
