Sometimes when I look toward the bright sunlight and then close my eyes
I see the bright colors of red and orange upon my eyelids
During these moments I feel a surge of warmth and confidence
It washes over me like a waterfall of true bliss
On these days I feel like I can accomplish anything
The feelings of positive energy and acceptance
It doesn’t happen on every sunny day
Just specials days when I’m not expecting it
I try so hard to create these moments without success
But it’s not meant to be a forced act
The color of brilliant orange spread throughout my soul

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
