Brick By Brick
do we want the sky?
We knew it would take time
Brick by brick we built it together
Some days, more effort from me
Other days, more effort from you
Most days we felt the heat suffocating our skin,
We did not stop, not a sip of water
Sun blared down on our necks,
Felt the trail of sweat down our backs,
Felt exhausted, felt the throbbing pain in our skulls,
We did not stop,
Brick by brick, we built it together
Some days, we moved slow,
We took deep breathes, we were relaxed,
Air blew through our hair, it felt like peace,
We looked at each other more
Our eyes found comfort with one another
Allowed our bodies to find the strength
It felt like floating
Nothing could bother us
Nothing could make us feel heavy
It felt easy, bricks felt light
Brick by brick, we built it together
We built it high up, it was tall,
It was a beauty, it was breathe-taking,
What a sight for us both,
Proud of what we built
We felt like we could touch the sky, but we were not quite there yet
Then one night, one violent stormy night, it was destroyed.
DESTROYED
Brick by brick we built it together and one night destroyed it all
All those moments spent with bricks,
All those days in the sun and the peaceful air,
All the effort, trust, and time...
All that time.
Brick by brick... destroyed.
Do I want to do this again?
Brick by brick?
Do we want a tall beauty?
Do we want the sky?
