Breaking Through

First, there was nothing.

White. black.

Daunting yet exhilarating

Fluctuating, shimmering

emptiness.

Then, there was a sound. A spark.

A laugh, a cry, an eagerness to greet the world

Glistening hazel hues opening

Black. White. Grey.

Curiosity, hesitation.

Then, there were voices

Guiding. Teaching. Protecting. Hurting.

Encouraging, condemning.

Thoughts, dreams – devoured.

Locked in by expectations and norms.

A monochromic world. A monochromic path.

Inhibited, chained, confused, stuck.

And then there was a drop.

A splatter.

A splash.

Red. Yellow. Blue.

A flurry of paint speckled bristles

A convergence of colors

Morphing and transforming

Breaking through.

Unchained.

I am me. Free.

Limitless.

A rainbow.
