The Stigma and Marginalization of Addiction and Substance Abuse

It starts with a taste, a feeling of bliss,

But soon enough, the cravings persist.

Addiction is a demon that takes hold,

And can leave a person feeling alone and cold.

Substance abuse is a path of destruction,

That can lead to a life of dysfunction.

It can tear apart families and friendships too,

And make it hard to know what to do.

Those who struggle with addiction,

Are often stigmatized with no conviction.

Marginalized and left to suffer in silence,

As society ignores their pain and violence.

The weight of addiction can be heavy,

And the journey to recovery can be unsteady.

The stigma and shame can make it harder,

To break the chains and become a starter.

Let us not judge those who struggle,

But offer them compassion and love that's humble.

Let us see them as human beings, not just addicts,

And work towards a world that's free from stigmas and conflict.

Breaking the chains of addiction and substance abuse,

Requires a community that's willing to diffuse,

The stigma and marginalization that surrounds it,

And offer a helping hand, to lift those who need it.

So let us break the chains of addiction,

And offer those who struggle, a path to redemption.

For a world that's free from addiction and shame,

Is a world that's built on compassion and change.
