Breakfast As A 22-Year-Old Woman

Section “Trials & Tribulations” from my collection “Reclamation”

By Isabella WalkerPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

I cried over my breakfast today

I was hungry when I awoke

as most people are

Made myself eggs, scrambled

the way I like

And a buttery, flaky croissant

to pair with it

Yet, I let it get cold

because in some twisted part of my soul

I told myself I didn’t deserve it

I didn’t need it

A tear stains my napkin

a silent cry for help

all over breakfast
