Break My Heart.

A sonnet poem.

By Marvelous MichaelPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

And the prayer “break my heart” fell from my lips,

Quickly at that, for distaste had settled in my mouth.

My heart, like wilted petals, swiftly slips.

O God, here it is again, shattered in pain, take every ounce.

*

Away I come, and lay my face, singing a bitter song,

Shattered illusions of love unreturned.

Now fade, to reveal You, present all along;

The allure of man at danger’s edge is spurned.

*

Yet here You stand, despite all of me that’s unworthy,

You remain near, ever ready to receive me.

So I rest, a wandering Samaritan, held by Jesus, who’s steadfast and sturdy.

And in Your worship, my broken heart finds remedy.

*

Break my heart whenever I go astray,

Let it be locked in Your presence, always.

The worship that held me when my heart was broken… and that inspired this prayer. 🙏🏾
