A poem about nature

I tuck spiders in at bed, misting their webs in case the night doesn't.

Silently, cautiously, I watch them in the moonlight, spinning silk.

When they've finished, I wish them goodnight and feed the cracks

Gathering along the concrete, spreading between the rocks.

I want roly-polies to know that I love them too even though I can't

Even begin to fathom the magnitude of their terrestrial cities.

.

I like to think, selfishly too, that maybe there is a whole world behind me.

Maybe the folded-up wings healed with hope and superglue remember.

Maybe so does the butterfly resuscitated with hot breath and nectar.

Maybe all the ants carried out in cups, the spiders dangling from pencils,

The moths delicately travelling inside pink cups to make them happy,

Maybe they remember that touch of compassion in a cold world.

Way to take something we don’t usually think about and make it beautiful

I like how the idea of delicateness is big here, particularly with the repeated "Maybe" that is so much of the second stanza. "Maybe all the ants carried out in cups, the spiders dangling from pencils,"- so easy to picture. Nicely done Silver😊

  • Oh wow, this was absolutely beautiful! Loved your poem!

This is so delicately a d beautifully written. And I get it. There was a time when I'd squish anything that dared enter my home. Now I just guide them outside.... if the cat doesn't eat them first. 😬

Beauty in the darkness of night! Outstanding work, Silver! This is precious and powerful all at once!

This was absolutely stunning! I loved the flow and the word choice all throughout, and the specific critters you tackle with each beautiful line.

Your attention to the smallest creatures and their shenanigans brings me immeasurable joy! Beautifully expressed, as always

This was lovely; I'm big on bugs, so this was right up my alley. I am personally afraid of spiders, but you even made them fit in, too.

oh. This. is. Gorgeous. Yep, I stylistically capped and decapped words there. lol. Anyway - loved your words here - always do. And loved the sentiment - always do. But that doesn't make this comment any less relevant. Another classic Daux piece.
