Branches and Roots
A poem about roots and branches of trees and people

Trees can be many different sizes with colorful leaves, flowers, or fruit.
It’s survival depends on the depth and stability of its roots.
Humans and trees depend on each other for life, we’re alike in alot of ways.
Yet we rarely take time to appreciate our similarities, instead letting life’s sorrows and struggles consume our days.
My biggest source of comfort and safety growing up didn’t come from my parents, but in the branches of the neighborhood trees.
Hidden from the harsh judgements and rejection, safe in the shade of its leaves where nobody could see me.
Climbing to the top of the tallest pine tree so i could see got miles around
My mind, my spirit, my dreams were free, as long as my feet were high off the ground.
Mu roots, the strength and sorry they give me every day,
Are forever intertwined with the trees i grew up in, in such a powerful way.
The branches of those childhood trees carry my hopes and dreams; protect me from my childhood fears.
Me and the trees both strengthened by the pain that caused many tears.
So if you haven’t stopped lately to appreciate all the blessings given to us by trees,
Give it a try, give one a hug, say thanks and you will see
All the beauty of life hidden within the roots and branches of your neighborhood trees.
