Bombs in Paradise

A Cosmic Standoff

By Zay KetchamPublished 4 years ago 4 min read

“HEAVEN’S BEDROOM”

She’d have the best one-liners

Some which were both romantic and terrifying to me

~

I used to watch the morning sun beams stain across her pieces of skin breaking through our mangled sheets

The moments caught in between consciousness rising, with the awakening of the Earth were the happiest of my life

Sometimes, the first image to appear, as I awoke from sleep, was her resting face, eyes closed, in her dreams

~

I couldn't explain how it happened, but it’s as if a demon had made its way into Heaven’s bedroom

Our love making had become something of a game of Russian roulette

I would never know which one of her I would get till the moment our scorched skins would ignite the brush feeding the furnace of passion

In one breath I would see the eye of God

In the next slide of the tongue, I would get the kiss of the Empress of the underworld

~

A song within the genre of erotica would sing to the rhythm of her body

A tempo resounding through the walls of our temple marches to the beat of her war drums

In the heat of the sweat, it is unclear if I am being sacrificed to this goddess of chaos, being consumed by her aura

Or, if she is offering her body as tribute for my love

~

The fragrance of her hair was second only to the sweet sound of her clothes gently hitting the floor like pedals off a flower, exposing her stem

Undressing herself naked came easily to her, and it happened often

Undressing herself emotionally, that happened fewer times than I can remember

“Behind the Scenes”

Two beautiful people

Starring in an epic life movie

Beloved by their family and friends

Described as a power couple by many

We were edgy, vibrant, progressive

We were artists, lovers, advocates

We believed in mental and physical health

We worked out together

Had lazy stay-at-home movie nights together

We cooked food together

We mated together

We fought each other

We stopped growing together

We hurt each other

We lost ourselves

We lost each other

You made me dinner

You made me laugh

You made me a man

You slept in late

You smoked

You stopped kissing me goodnight

You threw glass at me

You struck me

You loved me

You despised me

You feared losing me

I made you breakfast

I made you smile

I wrote songs for you

I drank

I worked too much

I stopped saying good morning

I threw you off of me

I broke a door

I loved you

I cried for you

I lost you

Whether on screen, or behind the scenes

Life and love aren't always what they seem

"The Last Stand...."

On this day, 31 years ago, I first opened my eyes to the world

On this day, 6 years ago, you walked into my life, altering it forever

On this day, today, my life will be forever changed again

Universe….your move

~

For every story, legend, and song has its final crescendo

After which there is a calm, followed by a resolution

Bringing us to the ‘hear and now’ soon to be followed by the ‘then and there’

A cosmic decision lies at the tip of your tongue

One which will shape history no matter the outcome

~

Uncertainty is our only certainty, for all that is known is that, after this moment,  we venture into the unknown

For whether together or apart, today is a new start

Creation and destruction are the ways of the cosmos

This we have no say in

In union or separate, we will need to fight these battles of chaos all the same

But what we do have a say in, is how near or far we wish to be to one another  during the eternal expansion of our universe that we get to share in during our finite existence

~

So sharpen your blade of courage

Armor yourself in your truth

For nor victory, nor strength is found in the density of our shields, or the height of our castle walls, but by the power of our will to fight for that which we desire above all else

For this great battle of my time will only have been a defeat if I were to choose to never wage in it

For I cannot fear the good fight as my only real terror is being afraid to step into the arena of the gods

~

And I will not be punished for someone else’s crimes

And I will not be held in a desert storm of silence

For Sampson’s hair shall not be cut

And my temple will not fall to ruin

~

I stand here, at the doorstep of destiny

A warrior of liberty in this epic tale that shall be witnessed by the greats of our galaxy

And echoed through the sacred walls of eternity

~

For a man is what I am

And, once the dust settles

Whether I find fortune or peril

I know that if our love is not to fly

It will fall in style

~

My heart drums the beat of thunder

The fire of Mars burns behind my eyes

The final act in this modern tragedy

Here I am, if you will fight for me
