Here you go again,
Making your move across the board,
Making sure I can’t catch up with you,
What if I don’t want to play in this game
Here I go letting my guard down,
Trusting you, trusting myself in this board game
Piece by piece you knock me out of the way until eventually, you wipe me out of your board game
I guess I was stupid for letting myself be your opponent,
Missing the things you were doing to try to get me to look away,
You came so close to thinking you won the game
I wish I had noticed before,
Before you laid out your board game,
I guess I’m easy to go for,
Making me care, you don’t care
If only I could be a brighter guy,
I’ve been bruised from trying too hard,
Still, you hand me your tricks like a deck of cards; I didn’t notice until the room got colder
When things get tough, you never seem to stick around,
Things get tough for me - you leave me, now I’m paying the price
Thank you once again for the pain,
Thank you for giving me reason never to play again
I hadn’t noticed you were just here for the fun and games,
I cared, now I’m picking up the pieces, packing away
I let my guard down
You were just playing me like a board game
