A drop of ink

Dissolving into my being

Was it always there?

Ink courses through my veins

Have I always been blue?

I can’t sit still

I can’t stop writing

Years of silence evaporating

I walk barefoot in scorching heat

The temple bells ring

I come here every year

With my family

I am pulled back

To my childhood days

It’s calm and chaotic here

On our drive back home

I fall asleep

Windows rolled down

I’m safe and sound

I’ve always been safe here

In their gentle presence

How do I imagine a life

Far away from them?

How do I leave behind

Everything I’ve ever known?

I am gloomy now

I don’t want tears trickling down

My brother plays a song

I go back to sleep

For now, they are with me

And I’m with them

And I wish I could pause time

I wish I could remain

In this warmth forever

But the car ride ends

We are back home

I go back to my bedroom

And let the ink spill

My words are everywhere

All over the place

I gather them

I fall asleep writing.
