"Blue isn't just . . ."
All the shades and tints beneath the surface.

Blue isn’t just
the color of my eyes.
People notice my eyes - ice blue, crystal blue,
sparkling blue . . . so they say.
No one can see the true blues,
the deep, dark shades of blue inside.
The oceanic blue from childhood scars.
The woeful, cool blue of lost love.
The dreary, slate blue of self-doubt and sadness.
Sometimes I can almost touch the blue.
Its weighty mass wearing me down –
midnight blue.
These inner blues, these secret blues
share space with other shades.
Azure, celestial and aquamarine blue.
The blue of open space, tranquility, clarity.
I hold the freedom of sky blue,
the strength of steel blue.
Listless indigo blue releases its grip, making space
for soft powder blue, ethereal Evening in Paris blue.
These Aegean shades and Arctic tints
sometimes battle, sometimes surrender,
anchoring to co-exist.
They need each other. The dark and the light,
the sky and the midnight.
Ask me who I am -
A swirling, dynamic pool of blues.
