Blue Eyed Man
Love at First Eye Lock
Easy and carefree… Eyes the color of the blue/green sea.
I saw him… staring, from across the room. Our eyes locked… entangled… for just a moment, briefly, in a deadlock.
A parlor room… brimming with colorful revelers… the likes of which could be mistaken for Alice and her peculiar troop from Wonderland… white rabbit in tow, wait, he was a no show or perhaps just late.
An immersive experience, some might be inclined to deem unreal… a detour from reality. I truly appreciated the spectacular authenticity; an obscure theatrical novelty.
All at once-
Time stood still… Like a painted picture… uncommonly surreal. Alice and her crew, frozen, statues trapped in a temporal gap… lost in a loop... expressions transfixed… broken glasses scattered betwixted…
I saw his face. The man with ocean eyes and bemused grin.
An eternal eye lock wrapped in a golden, misty veil. Above the floor our feet began to levitate… we whirled together in rhythmic harmony. Our hands interlocked and our limbs intertwined… dancing towards the heavens… a moment trapped in time... a moment infinitely sublime.
He spoke first and asked, “By which name do you prefer to be addressed?”. My heart fluttered, stirringly, within my chest. I felt instantly inane so I made up a slight deceit. To seem unimpressed and mysteriously aloof, I unenthusiasticly replied, “Sienna from the Mountains of Vienna”. In the most contrived accent I could have possibly procured… but most certainly never attained. “Here in New York to display my artwork”… “Study of the Adored Fjords of Norway”.
His whimsical smile told me he instantly recognized that everything I had just proclaimed to be a robust lie… a fable... extravagant rubbish… intended to disarm and disable the brilliant man with blue/green eyes…. enticed from across the room to meet my gaze.
Lured by my wicked charm he gently touched my arm. A parlay was reached to avoid further feats of superfluous repartee and grandiose banter.
His shaggy, honey colored hair shimmered under the sparkling light. The chandelier above emanated a glow reminiscent of a thousand tiny candles; flickering gently with the slightest breeze. Yet, it still didn’t match the fire permeating the space we shared in the most ironic room that has ever existed.
He held my hand and walked me outside to glance at the stars and stare at the moon…We waltzed away from the surreal display; the frozen statues in the room behind us.
The sound of his voice vibrated like musical notes dancing hypnotically within my ears. His voice, alone, sent my heart fluttering…soaring with unquenchable desire. The soft baritone… the unparalleled verbiage untethered by conventional restrictions… an intellectual firestorm.
It was the most transcendent evening… The ambiance and night’s esthetic exemplary. Irrefutably, the quintessential moment to take flight… venture freely from reality… visit a carefully constructed dreamscape… with the shaggy haired man… eyes the color of the Mediterranean Sea.
In those eyes… I did swim into the depth of an ocean… reflecting back at me… a mirror to my soul. Not knowing how it would all end and not caring if it even truly began. This midnight journey was cathartic. A likeness of souls that rarely connect. In cases, such as this, the time together is bliss. A meeting of minds divided only by the trappings of their earthly confinement.
Blooming rainbows… arctic daisies... mismatched… doomed from the moment our eyes interlocked…
But, in this frozen section of displaced time… hidden and forgotten… our eyes did meet and to the depth we swam… to a clandestine destination nestled in eternity… submerging ourselves… getting lost for hours or maybe a millenia. Who can remember? After all, it was love… the moment our eyes were entangled in a deadlock.
Though, in retrospect, who could believe such a love ever existed? Alice and her hangers on, from Wonderland, were the only ones to witness and they turned into statues shortly there after. Although, the white rabbit did finally show, but he was far too stricken with consternation to know up from down.
