I am no stranger to blood

Skinned knees

Blistered heels

Scraped palms

and the bruises to go along with them.

Sliced fingers

Nicked ankles

Womanhood

and the knowledge of what I’ve learned.

Peeled lips

Chewed cuticles

Picked scabs

and the scars from where I -

I’m no stranger to blood

Gashed foreheads

Bleed a lot

Sharp edges lead to scars

and staples hold more than just paper together

I’m no stranger to blood

Sacrifice

Covering

Atonement

and the freedom from my torment

I’m no stranger to blood

But this blood

- His blood -

is what restored me

They’re just words

I’m arranging in an order

And yet somehow

Nothing else is harder.
