Bliss in the Silence

a moment of pure ecstasy during the fourth of july i'd never want to forget

By reese raine :)Published 4 years ago 1 min read

The comforting serenity of losing yourself within the horizon's grasp of my gaze felt peculiarly pleasant. Silence sits upon my friends and I as we sit mesmerized at what's ahead of us, only for the remaining warmth in our bodies to embrace on another seeking what it can consume. The grey flawed waves of the water crash beneath us, onto the rocks. Children laugh as they compete to balance on the rigid rocks with on another while their parents watch with strict vigilance, however a sense of ease stands. We sit plugged in, Sufjan Stevens' Fourth of July consecutively replays itself as I wait for the pier fireworks to begin. The silence continues to wade itself between, through, and around us, though a few sniffles and nose wipes sneak in that the cold breeze had caused along with our rosy cheeks and tangled hair. Occasionally, I turned to look at my friends — despite our constant humorous demeanors around each other, they remain expressionless, only allowing a soft gentleness to linger within their eyes, staring at the quietness ahead. The mute sparks of color scatter slightly above the horizon in the distance. Across the waters, behind and within the mismatched yet patterned hills, I can't help, but find the fascination that has yet to embark of the people over there as their fireworks begin — as intriguing.
