Blame it on me.

……For anyone who’s been blaming others or themselves—this is for you. It’s time to let go and take back what’s yours.

Blame it on the ADHD,

Blame it on the color of our skin,

Blame it on the world for how it spins,

Blame it on your parents who never cared how you was,

Blame it on the trauma you endured.

Blame it on the broken system,

Blame it on the pain we didn’t choose,

Blame it on the things we can’t undo—

Yes, you can blame it on a thousand things,

But that’s just the chain you keep tied to your feet.

*

They want you to blame.

They want you to stay small and cave,

To keep pointing at what held you down,

To make excuses for the things you haven’t done,

For the dreams you let slip through your hands,

For the ways you never took your stand.

Because it’s easy, right?

Blame is a cushion,

A blanket to cover the truth that burns too bright.

*

But here’s the thing—

Blame keeps you stuck in the past,

It keeps you thinking someone else has the keys to your future,

To your life.

It keeps you in the victim’s seat,

While they pull the strings and make you believe

That it’s them who decide your fate,

That it’s the world that holds you back…..

When it’s what you make.

*

But you don’t have to play that game.

You don’t have to let them keep you small.

Take a step, look up…… 🆙

And realize the power to choose is in your hands.

You can rise from these sands,

Without giving in to the blame,

Without letting the world tell you what’s your name.

*

Blame it on the system,

Blame it on the lies,

Blame it on the things you were never taught to see—

The things you were taught was “right.”

Or—

You can stop blaming,

And start living.

*

You can stop waiting for someone else to fix it,

You can stop crying over what’s been broken,

And just do.

Do what you’ve always been meant to do,

Without the chains of blame,

Without the weight of excuses,

Without looking back on what you should have done instead.

*

The lane is clear when you stop pointing fingers,

To you and to them.

When you stop asking why things aren’t changing,

And start changing.

*

So, blame it on me if you want,

But I’ll rise anyway.

I’ll rise because I choose to see the path,

To own what’s mine,

And walk it out.

*

No more blame.

Just rise.

Taking back what was always mine to claim.

Just a little self-assurance was all the price to pay…

The price of the game.

*

I’m still figuring out how to format my lines properly, so I apologize if my attempt at formatting feels a bit constricted or distracting.

I just hope the words still hit home for you, in the same way they would’ve if I had left the writing as is.

But hey, this is how we grow, right? You know what I mean? 😊
