Blackness

A Poem Enlightened in the Dark

By Jessica WeissPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I am listed under blackness

A veil over my world

Be it subtle button-ups that match these ink slacks,

Little black dresses and leggings or tights

These tic and tact things expected by night

Or restless demons mailing shadows to my day

The woes of all those things which might not go right

I cower in depths of pitch where no one will find me

On weekends, workwear is washed separately

They must be well pressed and all lint-free

Small imperfections are eclipsed to an indistinct blur

My black-on-black-over-black concealer

Time cannot eternally cripple, however

No creases, no dread or doubt has full control within

I refuse to suffer by my misery, in the shade, forever

I will create a truth free of my angst, and in each endeavor

Live above it, over again

The light that the demons blind me to resist

Is the reason why Blackness can even exist

Embracing the deep feelings mysterious

I will fear no blackout or question mark

Strength for myself to a higher embark

So that I may be able to see through the dark
