"Black Point"

Poem

By William RenehanPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

And found there still

The wind held sway—

Amidst the stagnant pools

And salt-caked bramble

The weathered stone—

The ancient mantle—

Deepened out and rode

The rusted railing to the sea

Where out beyond the plash of swells

The smell of freshly blossomed trees

Beneath the vacuous ether

Seemed to cling—

And the muted sun-drenched scene

Of near cliff divers came to seem

Melted— as with memory—

In the soft candescent gleam.

(Note: written after a day spent walking the trail at Black Point in Narragansett, Rhode Island. Late spring if I remember correctly.)
