Black not like the darkness in the sky
But Black on my skin and the depths of my soul
Black can be defined anyway you choose but if I explained would you listen
Black being praised for degrees that I received
Black to the two that I conceived
Black to the obstacles i had to oversee
Black to the company that don’t respect my peace
Black to the nation that will knock you down on your knees
Black on paper
Black in your eyes
Put on all black and let you decide whether I’m a robber or a theft
Black is respect, yes ma’am no sir please
If you knew my story would you let Black Take the lead
But can you See beyond the Black and get to know the real me
Would Black make you feel self conscious or less of a person?
Would Black be the first you think of for a promotion?
Would Black get a lighter sentence?
Would Black be promoted in more businesses?
Would Black stop the violence amongst ourselves?
Would Black stop being as asked is natural or a weave?
Walking while Black is that a crime.
Will you walk next to me or clutch your pearls thinking I am going to take something from you.
Will you walk with me or be against me?
